Lymington Town Sailing Club hosted their annual Ladies race on a drizzly June evening. Full of enthusiasm, there were 13 entries making a slow start in the shadow of the Lymington River.
Serenaded out to the Solent by 'The Sea-Martins' the sailors were greeted by a fresh breeze of 16-18 knots. The tide was against them upwind, so an inshore passage was the optimum route and came with plenty of seaweed hazards. There were some graceful capsizes; a pirouette in the shallows, a tombé on the run and a curtsy to the bow of the Wightlink Ferry.
Chloe Martin sailing a Seafly and crewed by her father John, finished first on the water only to be pipped by 40 seconds on corrected time by overall winner Jenny Bennett sailing her new RS Aero. Third place went to Liz Snedker crewed by David Ellis sailing the club RS Quest. In fourth and fifth place respectively and back from University for summer, was Emma Bennett sailing a Tasar crewed by Richard Russell and Evie Snedker sailing an RS Aero.
