Squib National Championship at Royal Torbay Yacht Club - Day 3

by Keith Davies 25 Jun 2019 18:28 BST 22-28 June 2019

The 51st Squib National Championship race 3 due to be sailed today was postponed to 11:00 hrs tomorrow due to light or no wind of significance all day.

RTYC Race officer, Bill Butcher, cancelled racing today at 12:30 allowing the 54 competing boat crews to have an afternoon off sightseeing in the magnificent Torbay area. Predictably, the wind immediately increased but even then not enough to meet the minimum criteria of 5kt constant all over the course area.

Tuesday's Day Sponsor was Old Sail Loft who will now provide prizes on Wednesday in conjunction with Hyde Sails who are tomorrow's Day Sponsor.

So, two races on Wednesday which will consolidate a series and allow a National Champion to be found for 2019.

It has been a hectic social week so far with the RTYC providing excellent hospitality and the Squib fleet responding in kind with a great reception for the organisers yesterday evening.

The anticipated strong winds later in the week will provide a welcome change for some and will undoubtedly have a profound effect on the current standings.
