24-25 August 2019
Following on from the sad loss of Martin Boatman to cancer in January, Sunderland Yacht Club have decided to host a regatta in his memory, the Boatman Bonanza. All proceeds will be going to a mix of the Bobby Robson Foundation and we are in the process of setting up a trust to support youth sailing in Martin's name.
Just as Martin would have wanted it, it will be a mix of hard racing in Whitburn Bay for all dinghy classes and small sportsboats (SB20s and smaller), hard partying with a band on Saturday night and plenty for the families to do during the days (Beach games, indoor games, kids entertainers etc.) this is a regatta like no other!
Current entries include Dave Hivey, Ian and Dan Trotter, Ian Turnbull, Jono Shelley and many more of the great and good of dinghy and sportsboat sailing!
The Musto Skiff Class of which Martin was a key member have relocated their Harken open meeting from Derwent Water Sailing Club to Sunderland YC for this event as have the RS800 Northern Tour, a class that Martin sailed in most recently
Entries are limited to 80 boats so enter asap to avoid disappointment!
Entry fee is £35

We have been stunned by the support from sponsors who have donated various prizes which will go in three directions, the silent auction (see the next article out later this week!), a raffle and racing prizes. Seriously, you would not believe how many prizes we have, but we promise that the presentation won't be ridiculous!
