At exactly 1pm on 21 June, the starting cannon fired to signal the start of the 4th MidsummerSail for the 11 yachts taking part in the 2019 regatta. They started to sail the Baltic Sea from the southernmost to the northernmost points.

Singlehanded, doublehanded or fully crewed, yachts are now heading out into the Baltic towards Sweden. Different types and lengths of yachts are taking part in this years Regatta, from the Mini 6.50 to 48 foot yachts, making for a very exciting and tactical race.

The stretch of the Baltic that the route covers is almost 900 nautical miles and will show who is able to stand, victorious, on the famous yellow buoy.

Despite the fact that the Baltic Sea is not considered as the High Sea, the distance being covered by the participating yachts is one third longer than in the famous Fastnet or Sydney to Hobart race, and will be very demanding for all the participants.

Will anyone beat the current record of 6 days, 12 hours, 23 minutes, 47 seconds? We shall have to wait and see.

Töre, the small Swedish town which is the destination for the yachts, is very happy to Welcome the MidsummerSailors, and has organised a summer party on June 29th.

The race can be followed on the tracker: www.midsummersail.com/tracker
