Pennine Sailing Club held its first RS200 open, sponsored by Kingfisher Ropes and Sailing Chandlery, on a bright but windy June Sunday. The sailors were greeted by the Pennine team with bacon sandwiches, tea and coffee to set the day off greeting our five visiting boats.

With the first race starting at 11am giving us shifty beats and tight reaches and seeing many changes for the lead but Oliver & Ben eventually took the first win of the day.

The start of the second race gave Oliver & Ben a lot to do as they were pushed out at the pin end and forced to re round. A small change to the course opened up the second reach and again seeing close racing but with a tactical run down the back of the course which again saw the leading three change places but with a double gybe Martin & Barbara came through to take a clear lead from Oliver & Harry.

Race 3 got off promptly after lunch, but with no let up from the gusts, again set up a three way challenge for the win. Harry & Emma pushing for a good start ended up in a challenging position and a long way behind the fleet after the start. With this opportunity Oliver took the lead after the windward mark from Josh and Tattana and never looked back. So the race was on for the other 5 boats and seeing many capsizes as the boats flew down the reaches but as the laps went down Harry & Emma made their way through the fleet and finally taking Martin & Barbara on the last lap to take second place.

Race 4 again with no let up from the wind and a slightly altered course saw the fleet get away with a clean start and head to the windward mark. This time with the fleet all rounding close together Harry and Emma took the lead leaving the rest of the fleet to fight it out for the rest of the positions. Close racing then saw a three lap fight between Oliver, Richard and Martin and with an almost photo finish seeing all three within 10 seconds of each other on the line, but Harry and Emma had already taken a clear win for the final race of the day.

Oliver and Ben (YDSC) taking the overall win and the £100 voucher from Kingfisher ropes but closely behind on points Harry and Emma (Pennine SC) taking second and Martin and Barbara (Delph Sc) third overall.
