RS Summer Regatta at Lymington Town Sailing Club

by Heather Chipperfield 11 Jun 2019 12:02 BST 8-9 June 2019

Lymington Town SC was the host club for the RS Summer Regatta, a massive event with 170 sailors in six fleets, which included the RS500 UK National Championship.

The club laid on an amazing event, as ever, with over 50 volunteers making it all happen and making the visitors extremely welcome. Very and quite local companies, Harken UK and Rooster Sailing sponsored the event with generous prizes.

The weather gods had not taken note of the regatta name and sent along tempests on Saturday, leading to an early call of abandoned sailing.

The visitors were delighted, keen to sample the lovely walking, shopping, eating, drinking available in and around the town, before returning to the club for a great party.

Sunday was kinder and four excellent races took place in building wind. In the competitive RS500 fleet, Royal Lymington's Nick & Fanny Rogers went to the wire with ex-World Champions Tim & Heather Wilkins (Gurnard SC), finally taking the title on countback.

Our RS800 heroes, Luke & Emma McEwen, took the RS800 Summer Regatta title, and Ed Reeves (RLymYC) and Liam Willis (LTSC) were 3rd and 4th in the RS700 fleet.

The RS400s were the largest fleet, bit the local sailors had partied too hard to be in the lovely sponsor prizes.

Full results in all fleets are at ltsc.co.uk/results

Congratulations to Lymington Town SC for a fabulous event.
