Sunday the 9th June was the date for this year's inter-club race on the south coast between Pagham Yacht Club, Bognor Sailing Club & Felpham Sailing Club: The Tythe Barn.

This year it was Felpham Sailing Club's turn to host this popular event and the wind Gods were kind!

The storm that had lashed through the UK during the week, abated, and we were presented with sunshine and a gentle F2 breeze.

What a fantastic turn out! 54 boats in total: 37 boats from the hosts, 7 from Pagham, 8 from Bognor & 2, as yet, unidentified.

A trapezoid course was set....and re-set as the wind shifted around. The race got off 15minutes later than scheduled once the wind had settled.

The starboard end of the line was favoured but many boats opted for the other end in hope of clear air... much to their regret.

So the boats that headed East, in to the tide, were the boats that would ultimately triumph.

First around the windward mark was the RS600 of Tim Cutsforth (FSC) followed by Callum Aldous in his DZero (FSC). However, not far back was the Lark of Martin & Connor Gillam (FSC) and, as always, Guy Mayger in his Solo (FSC).

The wonderful Cats from Bognor just didn't have enough wind to live up to their Portsmouth Yardstick.

In the middle of the fleet, the marks were crowded at times with much shouting & rule debating...but no damage to any boats reported.

The fastest boats completed 4 laps in total. The first boat on the water was the Nacra 5.0 DS of Joe Elwin & John Fleming (BSC) with Tim Cutsforth (FSC) in his RS600 just 2 seconds behind.

Overall Results: (top ten)

1st Guy Mayger (FSC, Solo)
2nd Martin & Connor Gillam (FSC, Lark)
3rd Callum Aldous (FSC, D-Zero)
4th Tim Cutsforth (FSC, RS600)
5th Mark Aldous (FSC, D-Zero)
6th Richard Bentley (FSC, Aero7)
7th Luke Mapley & Lauraen Bentley (FSC, RS200)
8th Roshan Verghese (FSC, Aero7)
9th Ross Fisher (FSC, Blaze)
10th Tom Twist (FSC, Laser) 1st cadet

So Felpham Sailing Club retain the Tythe Barn Trophy & look forward to next year's race hosted by Bognor Sailing Club.
