Vicem Yachts 67 Cruiser comfort features continue to evolve

by Elisa Corti 31 May 2019 13:08 BST

Vicem Yachts is excited to provide updates on the construction of its new cold-molded motoryacht, the Vicem 67 Cruiser, which the company has designed for the modern cruising yachtsman. The Vicem 67 Cruiser has been certified with CE Design Category "A", the yacht designation with the toughest standards reserved for vessels 40 feet and over designed to be self-sufficient for extended voyages.

"The 67 Cruiser is a new design that will accommodate the needs of our clients who may want to cruise the open ocean," says Sinan Unal, Chief Naval Architect and Marine Engineer. "With the benefit of comfortable accommodations, space for a crew to manage the yacht, and additional fly bridge space, our cold-molded construction allows our clients to get everything they want in a yacht that's beyond the ordinary."

Her profile will be traditional, with a flying bridge and hardtop, bringing together Vicem's timeless design with numerous features that today's boaters want in their next yacht. This is a spec build of a new model for Vicem Yachts, which will be introduced at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

A Traditional Profile Finished with Proper Yacht Features

An elegant motor yacht, the Vicem 67 Cruiser will have a classic layout with five distinct social areas, including a formal dining area to port with seating for six with a galley opposite that can be open or closed off, depending on owner preference, and will be equipped for the discriminating chef with abundant space on quartz counters, and a full slate of appliances. The saloon will have facing settees port and starboard, served by a table on a high-low pedestal. The lower helm is open to the social areas of the main deck, and will have a side door for easy access to the side decks. Since the additional design, Vicem has added a day head to the main deck to ensure guest comfort under way.

Port and starboard stairs from the aft deck provide simple three-step access to a broad to swimming platform, which lowers hydraulically into the water for bathing. The aft deck will be shaded by the large flybridge overhang and will feature a wide transom settee served by a solid-wood table for al fresco dining for eight.

The flybridge hardtop is still under construction, and will provide shelter to the upper helm station, as well as forward-facing companion seating, an al fresco galley console, and a U-shaped settee. The flybridge will be a gathering spot for owner and guests on pleasant days at sea.

At anchor, a large foredeck sun pad on the trunk cabin will be equipped with a folding awning for wind and sun protection. There's also a forward-facing settee at the bow. Wide side decks will be protected by high bulwarks topped with a stainless steel bowrail to lend safe access to the foredeck.

The Interior Features Details Worthy of a Vicem

The interior will be finished in Vicem's signature book-matched veneers, with the builder's craftsmanship on full display. This tradition works with an updated design with a three-part stainless- steel-and-glass sliding door that will open wide to add an indoor-outdoor feel to the saloon and cockpit.

Belowdecks, the Vicem 67 Cruiser will feature a three-stateroom layout, including both forward and amidships masters with king-size beds, as well as an en suite starboard guest stateroom with a double bed. Throughout the build, craftsmanship will be apparent in the finishes and attention to detail. Stowage in lighted hanging lockers, beneath berths, and in nightstands will accommodate owner and guests for extended cruises. Heads will feature wood-framed, tempered-glass shower doors, quartz counters, and premium fixtures. A crew's quarters for two is located aft and has an eat-in galley, laundry facilities, and a head with separate shower.

Proper Cold-Molded Construction

Built with a hard-chined semi-displacement hull, the Vicem 67 Cruiser is constructed of cold-molded mahogany using West System epoxy, resulting in a strong hull that's light in weight. The build will use cold-molded plywood decks, superstructure, and housetop, sheathed with one ply of E-glass biaxial fabric with epoxy coating and lamination. The deck and house-top structure use mahogany framing and beams. Mahogany and hardwood are used in the stringers, keelson, and sheer, and the structural engine beds are cold-molded, laminated mahogany. The hull-deck joint is glued and mechanically fastened. Vicem will use epoxy undercoating, fairing compound, and barrier coat in addition to anti-fouling on all hull surfaces below the waterline. In addition, the builder will use polyurethane coatings for the topsides and boot stripe. Quarter guards and rubrails will be laminated teak with stainless strikers.

Propulsion and Performance

Power for the Vicem 67 Cruiser will be a pair of 600-horsepower Volvo Penta D8 diesels using conventional shaft drives and custom designed 4-blades propellers. Expected speeds with the standard engines are a 16-knot cruise and a 20- knot top speed. With that engine package, the range at cruise is expected to be 800 nautical miles, with a 2,200-nautical-mile range at 8 knots. Engine options will include 725-horsepower Volvo Penta D11s and 900-horsepower Volvo Penta D13s.
