XODs out in force at Itchenor Sailing Club for the Hutcheson Cups

by Rachel Soothill 29 May 2019 11:52 BST 25-27 May 2019

The members of the XOD class at Itchenor Sailing Club were out in force over the Bank Holiday weekend competing for the Hutcheson Cups. Held over the three days, the series consisted of seven races with only one discard. So consistency was key to success for the nineteen classic boats.

Saturday's two races started in light and rather unpredictable breezes which caused the second longer round the harbour race to contain a number of reaching legs - to the delight of some and frustration of others. The steadier winds of Sunday and Monday allowed some classic Chichester Harbour windward/leeward courses.

The two leading contenders were Xcitation in the hands of Roger Yeoman and Michael Moss, and Lass sailed by John Tremlett with a number of key crew members including Jeremy Lear and Richard Bullock. They were challenged on Saturday and Sunday by Colin McKinnon, Neil Hart and Chris Froy in Catherine who scored first, second, third and fourth places. Their absence on Monday allowed Xcitation and Lass a clear passage to receipt of the cups.

Xcitation's record of three first places and three seconds was just enough to beat Lass's three first, two seconds and a third.

Overall Results: (top three)

1st Xcitation - Roger Yeoman, Michael Moss 9pts
2nd Lass - John Tremlett, Jeremy Lear, Richard Bullock 10pts
3rd Princess Jalina - David Palmer 36pts
