Enterprise Midland Area Double Chine Series Round 2 at Tamworth Sailing Club

by Paul Young & Aimee Allsopp 22 May 2019 06:41 BST 18 May 2019

This event, the second in the Enterprise Midland Area Double Chine Series, was held at Tamworth Sailing Club on Saturday 18th May 2019. Five boats which included visitors from both Midland SC and Rugby and Daventry SC competed.

The day was overcast, with light and variable wind. In the first race, Nigel Allso crewed by Kate Brazier (Tamworth SC) led around the first mark, but Martin Davies crewed by Rebecca Bradley (Rugby and Daventry SC) got away, leaving the rest of the fleet behind. Nigel and Kate finished second, with Paul Young crewed by Aimee Allsopp (Midland SC) finishing third.

After a delicious lunch, a new course was set for the following two races. In the second race, Nigel and Kate led around the first windward mark ahead of Martin and Rebecca, with Allan Roper crewed by Sandra Young (Tamworth SC) third. Martin and Rebecca were able, with some luck, to take the lead in the next leg. They sailed well to establish a commanding lead. However towards the end of the race, Nigel and Kate caught up. At the last mark. Martin and Rebecca led Nigel and Kate by a whisker, which proved crucial, despite several places changes and tacks to the finish line Martin and Rebecca won both this second race and the meeting.

With first place already decided, race three would determine the remaining positions. The third race was sailed in the best winds of the day, with the sun even shining! This time Nigel and Kate took no prisoners and led strongly from start to finish, leaving Martin and Rebecca a few minutes behind. Paul and Aimee finished third, despite closing in on Martin and Rebecca on the final leg. Winning helm Martin Davies thanked everyone for a wonderful day of racing.
