RWSABC (Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club in Greenock) held their annual regatta on the 3rd and 4th June 2006 which incorporated the Scottish Albacore Championships. Boats travelled from as far as Montrose to support this event which has been held at RWSABC for several years. Five races were completed in light winds (3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday).

In the Albacore fleet, Crawford Reid and Isabelle Martin sailing “Ptarmigan” from Strathclyde Loch (who were third overall last Year) excelled themselves to be first in every race, even having to go back in the fourth race having been over the line at the start. As well as winning the 2006 Scottish Championships they also won the Best Overall Boat Trophy for the weekend.

Stuart Gibson & Gavin Berry (the winners from last year) sailing “Sundowner” from Clyde Cruising Club were in second place with 9 points (three 2nds and a 3rd place). This was closely followed by local boat “Shadow” sailed by Richard Downie and Lorna McCartney who were in third place on 10 points (two 2nds and a two 3rd places). 4th Equal was Derek Gibbon and his daughter Katie Gibbon from F.F.C. and Chas Frize and Chris Frize from Bardowie Loch.

The open handicap came down to the final race but resulted in 1st prize going to Fireball “Get Out” sailed by David Taylor and Ian Brockett and in 2nd Place RS 200 “Dinky” sailed by Elaine Hunter and Kirsty Stevenson.

Our thanks would like to go to the Race Officer Douglas Forrester who came from Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club to run the event and to our sponsor “Ware With All Ltd”.

UK National Championships goes to Nev Herbert and Lewis Fowler Well day 4 will go down as "fresh to frightening". Wind, waves and sun, not quite as much of the last of those but enough to add to the experience. The first race of the day was series race 8 and the final one for the UK Nationals. Albacore Internationals at Abersoch day 3
Wind dropped all day and the sea state went from predictable to sloppy At last the sun came out to greet the fleet at the committee boat with the wind as forecast at 15 to 20 knots. An epic day for the fleet! Abersoch delivered an epic day for the Albacores with a base wind of 16 knots gusting 24 knots, with a SW breeze producing proper surfing conditions. To add to some of the carnage that produced, we got controversy with effectively two winners! Posted on 1 Aug 2023
