Countdown to Hebe Haven YC Team Sheldon Open Dinghy Regatta 2019 Begins

by Sabrina Fan 10 May 2019 12:02 BST 18-19 May 2019

Hebe Haven Yacht Club's most anticipated Dinghy Racing event returns on 18th 19th May, with Team Sheldon as Title Sponsor and North Sails as Supporting Sponsor.

This is a two day event held in the local waters of Port Shelter, off Sai Kung:

  • Date: 18th 19th May 2019
  • Start times: 1155 (Sat), 1055 (Sun)
  • Final entry: 1800, 14th May 2019 (Tue)
In a week's time, young sailors can step into the ultimate racing event as the Open Dinghy Regatta returns to Sai Kung waters on 18th May, with a host of awe-inspiring entry teams across Hong Kong, Macau, PRC China and South East Asia.

Rob Allen STC Manager: "Competitive Sailing has developed over the past few years in Hong Kong. With more international sailors coming to Hong Kong events, the levels and standards of our local and expat sailors have naturally increased the standards out on the race courses. The Green Fleet Experience- HKODA's grass roots racing program has been an excellent initiative in terms of creating a larger pool of junior sailors being race ready for the main fleet in the optimist class. We expect over 200 sailors to grace our waters this May and with 3 National ranking Regattas as part of our event (HKLCA, HKODA & 2,4mR classes) we expect the racing to be more competitive than ever."

About the Team Sheldon Open Dinghy Regatta

This year the event will be open to various classes of dinghies, from junior to advanced sailors, including Hong Kong National Squad Sailors and International Sailors coming to take part in the event. 3 races are scheduled each day, to complete the series of 6 races scheduled during the weekend. The Hong Kong Sailing Federation will have an International Jury Team watching over the sailors, ensuring Racing Rules, Sportsmanship & Fair Racing are part of our Club's event.

Hebe Haven Yacht Club will provide a sponsored buffet at the Prize-Giving ceremony on Sunday afternoon, to celebrate the winners of the divisions and enjoy a friendly gathering with the Racing Community in our Garden Bar.

Please visit the official website here. Advance booking is strongly recommended. Optimist, Laser, Laser Pico, and RS Quest boats are available for charter on a first come first serve basis.
