New foiler design with 2019 Rolex Sydney Hobart in mind

by FBVM Foilers 26 Mar 2019 11:25 GMT

Twelve months work and investment from a highly experienced Australian group has led to the development of a 15.2 m fully foiling design intended for the 2019 RSHYR.

Performance predictions for the design suggest that, in certain conditions, it is capable of leading the 30m maxis over the 630 nautical miles of the RSHYR.

The group, comprised of Andrew Buckland, Fred Barrett, Simon Grosser, Lindsay Stead and Brett van Munster has significant experience in designing, engineering, building and campaigning across high performance racing in all forms.

This includes extensive RSHYR and other Category 1 experience, as well as the design, engineering, project management and campaigning of high performance carbon keel boats across most race formats globally.

The group has funded the design costs to date, anticipating the evolution of the rating and regulatory framework to enable participation.

Both the rating authorities and the event organiser (CYCA) are supportive of the type, with the CYCA confirming its normal stability, primary safety and structural requirements as the significant equipment criteria for race entry.

Total build and campaign budget through to early 2020 is in the region of 2.0m USD or 1.5m GBP.

The group seeks EOI from parties interested in a turnkey project, capable of integration with existing competitive teams or de novo owners.

Corporate sponsorship potential in Australia and globally is substantial. Interested parties can contact Andrew Buckland: Mobile: +61 426 150 187 - Email:
