The ORC and Olympic classes regatta, to be held in the bay of Palma from 29 March to 6 April, is sponsored by Iberostar and the collaboration of ten companies and institutions.

The 50th edition 50 del Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofía Iberostar will count again on the inestimable support of the Iberostar group, the event's main sponsor and the collaboration of Marine Pool, Trasmediterránea and Europcar, besides the support of the main Balearic public institutions and the Spanish and Balearic federations.

Organised by Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and Club Nàutic S'Arenal, the Sofía Iberostar will take place in the bay of Palma from 29th March to 6th April.

Group Iberostar will play a key role in the most important Olympic classes' regatta in Europe. For fifth consecutive year, the Mallorca Hotel group will stand out as the main sponsor of a regatta that, year after year, gathers together around one thousand sailors from over 50 nations. Oscar Luis González, Iberostar Global marketing manager, assures that the sponsorship of the event over the past five year "has been very successful". "All over this period he adds besides adding our name we have engaged with effort and passion".

González remembers that when they were presented with the possibility of sponsoring the Trofeo Sofía, Iberostar saw the opportunity "to reflect the company's values through a top level sports event such as this regatta". According to González, both the hotel company as the Sofía Iberostar share the common spirit of "team work, commitment and goal achievement".

The Sofía Iberostar will be dressed once again by Marine Pool, the water sports and sailing clothing brand in its third year as official collaborator and also the Spanish Olympic sailing team clothing supplier. It is expected to give out 500 T-shirts, polo shirts and shirts to the organising team as well as several gifts to all teams.

Trasmediterránea enters its sixth year as the Sofia Iberostar official ferry company, a collaboration which is essential for the transport of boats and teams travelling to Mallorca to take part in the event. On average, every year the crossings from Barcelona and Valencia during the dates of the Sofía Iberostar carry over 1500 passengers counting sailors, coaches and technical staff and around 1300 vans and trailers loaded with several boats.

Europcar, one of the main European car rental companies, will be the Sofia Iberostar car supplier for second consecutive year. It will provide cars and vans for the transport of VIPs, judges and members of the regatta organising team. Furthermore, its offices in Mallorca will offer discounts to all teams.

As far as Institutions are concerned, the 50 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Iberostar is supported by the Consell de Mallorca, Llucmajor and Palma city councils as well as Baleares Ports Authority and also has the collaboration and support of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Balearic Sailing Federation.

The Sofía Iberostar, organised by Club Nàutic S'Arenal, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Balearic and Spanish sailing federations, is the first major event of the Olympic sailing season in Europe. The organisation expects around 800 boats and over 1000 sailors from 50 nations. Racing will start on 29th March for ORC and One design classes while the Olympic classes' races will kick off on 1st April in the bay of Palma. Racing will take place until Saturday 6th April on which the top competitors in each class will sail the Medal race, the final race to decide the winners of each category as well as the 50 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Iberostar absolute winner.
