Enterprise Masters at Penarth Yacht Club

The Masters of the Enterprise association enjoyed an excellent championship at Penarth. This can be heralded as a ‘three day’ event socially, unfortunately only a ‘one day’ event on the water!

The event had a wide support – masters from Ireland, and as far North as The Clyde attended this event. There was a very warm welcome for competitors, who arrived on Friday night at Penarth Yacht Club where many of the Penarth Club members offered warm and friendly accommodation - this was very much appreciated by the Enterprise Fleet.

After fantastic weather on Friday 5 May, Saturday was overcast and cold with a light force 3-4. This gave the Enterprise Fleet two races under a very good race officer, Ian Barker. A home team enjoyed first position in both races. This was a ‘landmark’ for Simon Cook with crew Pete Rowley, as it was the first time he had competed as a ‘Master’ and, in fact, as a helm (his normal role is crew in major events).

Sunday was a day for the visitors – not for sailors – glorious sunshine, sea very flat – flags barely moving - racing abandoned at 1 00 pm followed by Prize Giving at 2 00 pm. Congratulations to Simon Cook and Peter Rowley – Enterprise Masters Champions. (Simon with Roy Barker were instrumental in organising this event with the very much appreciated backing of the Penarth Yacht Club).
