The 35th Splatt Lawyers Impulse Australian Championships were held at Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club, on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, between the 28th of December 2018 and the 3rd of January 2019.

49 entries from New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland contested the highly competitive regatta which was held over 10 heats in mostly light to moderate east to north-east winds.

Despite there being five different individual heat winners, David Mann, from Port Curtis Sailing Club, sailing his formula sailcraft built "FBS", became the first Queenslander in the history of the class to take out the national championships. Mann displayed blistering downwind speed and at times after the first beat would appear mid fleet but, was able to pass many boats downwind to ensure he was amongst the front runners.

In second place, was another Central Queensland competitor, Joshua Young, also from the Port Curtis Sailing Club sailing his Tim Wilson built "Slipknot". Young displayed a rapid improvement in his abilities in the last year and finished the series only two points behind Mann.

In third place was seven time Australian Impulse champion Michael Brown from South Lake Macquarie sailing his newly built formula sailcraft "King Brown". Leading up to the Australian Championships Brown had already taken out the Queensland and NSW state championships, and started hot favorite to win the national championships, however on his own admissions, struggled for consistency in the lighter conditions which prevailed during the regatta.

The next Impulse regattas on the racing calendar include the Eastern State Championships at Big River Sailing Club, Harwood Island on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of March 2019, and the Victorian State Championships, Labour Day Weekend Victoria, at Altona Yacht Club.

Altona will also be the venue for the 36th Impulse Australian Championships during the Christmas/New Year Period 2019-2020.
