Blackwater Sailing Club is delighted to announce that it has been chosen as the Eastern Region Club of the Year in the Royal Yachting Association and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year competition. The successful club, which has over one thousand members, beat stiff opposition from the many clubs in the east of the UK to gain this award.

The clubhouse and facilities are some of the best in the country having benefited from significant investment by the members over one hundred years. The winning application showed excellence in many categories including the highlights of their achievements during the last 12 months. Much was made of the fantastic Open Day they held this year when over 500 free taster sails were enjoyed by the visitors. Keep an eye out for information on their 2019 Open Day that will take place in May.

The club has a large man made lake where novice sailors of all ages can learn in a safe environment. Many Blackwater cadets have started learning there and go on to compete in National and European competitions. We can even boast the RS Feva Ladies National champion for the second year running and 2017 European champion as well as the National Junior champion as Blackwater cadets.

Blackwater SC is now in the running to win the much coveted UK Club of the Year 2019 award. Apart from the trophy, the prize includes the loan of the RYA fleet of RS Tera dinghies and some coaching that could particularly benefit many local youngsters.
