The sailors arrived at the Nansha Marina today morning to be greeted with light rains and 14 to 18 kts of wind blowing across the course. At the end the weather held out and today’s racing was proclaimed as the “best of the regatta”. Going into the final two races, it was not clear as to which teams would have the bragging rights at the Gala Dinner and prize-giving evening.

Team Hong Kong continued where they left off on Saturday adding one win to their race tally, whilst Singapore finished first in the sixth race of the series beating the Indian team which finished third overall after having drawn the reserve boat on the penultimate day of racing. Hong Kong and Singapore were tied on points, but Hong Kong won on the countback to be crowned winners of the 2nd Guangzhou Nansha Sailing Regatta.

“The Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta is a fantastic event, because you get a different boat each day and set it up,” commented Team Hong Kong. “The event requires a lot of effort from the organisers, and we really appreciate everyone that has been involved. We would recommend this regatta to everyone. We would also like to thank the other teams. It was a great battle, and they threw everything at it, which produced really good and enjoyable racing.” We are sure to be back next year.

“Fantastic close racing at a fabulous regatta,” gushed Albert Khong, General Manager of the Nansha Marina. “We hope that all of the competitors will be back next year. Special thanks to the support given by Asian Sailing Federation and the Race Officials. I would also thank all the sponsors who provided fantastic support, on and off the water. Next year we will provide a much more exciting format, and we hope to see many more teams from Asia participating at the event.”

A Prize Giving Ceremony was held in Grand Hall of the Nansha Marina. Team Hong Kong was presented with the Maritime Silk Route Cup and the cash prize of RMB 60,000, whilst Team Singapore and India sailed home with RMB 40,000 and RMB 20,000 respectively.
