AMERICAS CUP PROGRESS & 5TH CHALLENGER ANNOUNCED!

Oh how things have changed in the last two weeks with regards to the Americas Cup! The surprise announcement of an up to eight additional challengers putting their hats in the ring on the 31st November, with Malta confirming as the official 4th challenger and now Long Beach's Stars and Stripes confirmed this morning as the 5th challenger! AND still another potential six challengers brewing in the wings! We wait with baited breath for any further announcements over the coming weeks.

The current infrastructure allows for five challengers on top of the challenger of record, Luna Rossa and as we now have four confirmed, with space for one more, perhaps new bases will need to be built to accommodate any additional challengers. A good problem to have in consideration of the racing itself.

Either way, the legacy for the city's waterfront is fantastic. Yes it equates to more dollars, but just remember the fantastic legacy from the previous America's Cups and how it helped to progress the city forward to being a more livable city. Equally the tourist & business spend that will come alongside the Cup, not just for Auckland but for the whole country.

It's exciting times, that's for sure. Check out this video from NZ Herald on the infrastructure changes to the city: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12066828

MEET NZL SAILOR - SAM MEECH!

We're excited to kick off a new campaign introducing you to our incredibly inspiring NZL Sailing Team! We'll introduce you to a new sailor each month and will find out what inspires them about sailing, what their goals are and what it's like representing NZ on the world stage!

This month we talk to the lovely Sam Meech, who is doing great things in his Laser. Sailing has been in Sam's blood since his family upped sticks at a young age and went sailing around the world. You can see where he gets his passion from! This video is a short intro to Sam, more will follow later in the season! Email steffi@zhik.co.nz with anything you'd like us to ask these sailors in future videos.

You can follow Sam's progress on FB (@sammeechsailing) or Insta (@sammeech).

Our Auckland Showroom will be open late this Thursday from 4-8pm for last minute Christmas shopping!
41 Station Rd, Penrose, Auckland. Off-street parking out back.

WHAT A YEAR 2018 HAS BEEN FOR ZHIK!

2018 has been a biggie for us here at Zhik, there certainly was no 'off-season', with a huge amount of improving processes and our offering to you our customer! Some of the key milestones we're pretty chuffed about this year are;
  • Partners of the 2018 Volvo Ocean Race Winners!! Super proud of Dongfeng Race Team's win this year. A huge collaboration went into developing the Isotak X range of wet weather gear with the sailors, to ensure it solved their problems in all conditions and ensured they could perform the best they could. And they did!
  • The bonus was, off the back of this design collaboration with the team, the Isotak X Smock was awarded the DAME Award, the biggest international marine award.
  • Recyclable packaging: All our products are now being supplied in recycled packaging rather than the hoards of plastic that apparel tends to be packaged in. We're of the mantra that every little bit helps and it's our lovely oceans that we want to take care of after all!
  • Biggest PIC Coastal Classic event in 5-years! We're proud to be the official clothing partners of the PIC Coastal Classic and this year saw their biggest event in 5-years with 163 boats entered and a great buzz around the event!
  • New season product sell outs! Some of the 2018 season's products were so popular, they sold out of some sizes in record time! Namely the new ZKG 1.5 shoes and the Z-Cru Jackets
