All set for the Firefly Inlands at West Oxfordshire

by Fi Edwards 17 Oct 2018 18:25 BST 20-21 October 2018

West Oxfordshire Sailing Club, just South of Witney, will host the 2018 National Firefly Association Inland Championship this weekend (October 20th and 21st). The Championship - promises to be hotly contested with a number of top Firefly sailors, including several former National Champions, making the journey. Up for grabs is one of the three legendary Silver Firefly trophies - a reason in itself to compete!

The bar will be open after sailing on Saturday so the fleet can... *ahem* rehydrate and there will be a fish and chip supper organised for those staying on at the club. WOSC have organised free (if a little chilly) camping onsite - so there's not far to stumble from the bar to bed afterwards. There will be tea, coffee and bacon rolls available from the galley both days to banish those 'headaches' as well as bargain lunches for just £2.50 and free tea and cake after sailing Sunday. Further details of the Championship are available on the National Firefly Association website and Facebook group or on WOSC's website.

The two-day Championship will also serve as the penultimate leg of the 2018 National Firefly Association Vines Series. After a successful summer for the class, the points are tight at the top. Several of the fleet's hardened travellers - including the 2018 National Champion and 2017s defending Vines champions - will be in attendance looking to improve their ranking.

With the cancellation of the London 6-Pack the Inlands would make an ideal practise run for students competing in the BUSA Fleet Racing Championships at Draycote next weekend - or the perfect opportunity for recent graduates to get back on the water!

Don't have a boat yet but want to get involved? There are loads of boats looking for crew, check out the Firefly Association Facebook group for more details.
