Winter Season at Starcross Yacht Club

Starcross YC has claims to being one of the oldest sailing clubs in the world; founded in 1772 with races being recorded as early as 1775.

One would imagine that winter sailing was not particularly popular at that time, but with the advent of wetsuits and drysuits winter racing at the club is now every bit as popular as sailing in the summer. Our 2018/19 winter season starts on Sunday 7th October and runs until the end of March. Series racing is organised every Sunday (tide permitting), with an RNLI charity pursuit race in November and special trophy races on Boxing Day and New Years Day, with of course the annual Starcross Steamer pursuit race on March 16th.

The club is tweaking the fleet racing structure for the winter season this year with separate starts and appropriate courses for Asymmetrics (RS100-8.4 and faster, including RS400s, B14s etc.), Fast Handicap (Merlins, Hornets, Phantoms, Fireballs, RS300 etc.), Slow Handicap (Aero 9 and slower - including Lasers, RS200s, Aeros, Hadron etc.), Multihulls (Hurricane and Dart 18) and Juniors (Feva, Topper, Optimist).

Club winter membership includes an all-in package for helm, crew and a dinghy berth (subject to availability) and is open to all members of RYA affiliated clubs. We are located conveniently close to the M5/A380, about 10 minutes south of Exeter on the west bank of the Exe estuary.

Further details can be found on our website at www.starcrossyc.org.uk/join/winter-membership.
