RS Tera Scottish Championships at Dalgety Bay Sailing Club

by Emily Davis 6 Sep 2018 05:59 BST 1-2 September 2018

The RS Tera Scottish Championships were again hosted at Dalgety Bay Sailing Club over the weekend of 1st and 2nd of September 2018. The club enjoys a spectacular location and sailing area, and had been kind enough to lay on some stellar winds which lasted both days, less a small wait on Sunday morning.

It was fantastic to see a large Dalgety Bay Sailing Club member turnout for the Tera Sport, joined by member of two other clubs, Tilda Brayshay of Yorkshire Dales SC / Ripon SC and Archie Dunn of Isle of Man Yacht Club. Conditions made for exiting but challenging sailing for the less experienced members of this fleet. Sunday, saw a lift in wind speed to around 15 - 20 knots, which proved too much for some of the fleet, and in the end the experience of Tilda Brayshay won out with a win that was closely contested by some excellent sailing from Ben Homer. Third, went to another Dalgety Bay member, Mathew Davidson.

In the Pro fleet, whist smaller in number, the mix of experienced sailors meant for some very exciting and competitive sailing. At the end of day one it was still anyone's with some close and tactical racing and mixing up of positions. This continued on Sunday, with the final positions only being decided in the final race of the competition. James Johnson of Windermere School ultimately took the spoils, beating Esme Barraclough of Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club to first on countback, followed by Teddy Dunn of Isle of Man Yacht Club in third.

Particular thanks should go to Robbie Wilson for taking the time to organise and run the event in and amongst his busy schedule.
