Henri-Lloyd - For the Obsessed

Scottish Solo Traveller at Helensburgh Sailing Club sponsored by HD Sails

by David Parkin 4 Sep 2018 06:39 BST 1 September 2018

Fourteen Solos from the Borders up to Grampian entered the latest traveller at Helensburgh on Saturday 1st September.

Most forecast models suggested grey skies and 5 mph of wind at most and this may have put a few people off. In the end it was brighter than forecast and, although the wind was patchy at times, three good races were held. Race management was very slick until just before the start of the third race when a postponement was caused by the fleet demanding a triangle / sausage course rather than windward leeward. A wing mark was rapidly deployed with virtually no delay.

For once no general recalls were needed as the fleet behaved themselves. Racing was very competitive but the swirling tides were difficult to read. Keith Milroy though had no problems and cleaned up with bullets in the first 2 races. He now leads the overall series from Kev Gibb who was 4th and Malcolm Worsley who was 2nd.

A superb spread of cakes were waiting for us on our return to the clubhouse after we sailed home in much the best wind of the day.

We do it all again at Loch Tummel on Saturday 15th September.
