Sailing Clubs across Australia are inviting the community to enjoy a free sailing experience to celebrate National Discover Sailing Day 2018.

The National Discover Sailing Day has been created by Australian Sailing to assist clubs in promoting a select day to open up their club, clubhouse and the sport to the local community.

Visitors can attend the day by themselves, or with a partner, friends or family to get a taste of what sailing is all about.

Australian Sailing's Programs Manager, Chris Tate says that this year there has been a bigger focus on clubs and the local community to discover sailing.

"Discover Sailing Day is a national campaign targeted at local communities. We want to get more people into clubs and have them gain a true insight into what fun and enjoyment can be had through having a sail.

"Clubs that host a Discover Sailing Day not only welcome visitors to sailing but also to the sailing history and culture that clubs hold." Tate added.

Participating clubs will run their own schedules, giving visitors the opportunity to go out on a boat with a sailing instructor or an experienced club member.

Visitors can register on the day but it's recommend to register in advance at their local club to ensure maximum time on the water.

The National date is Sunday 28 October. Some clubs do choose a different date to suit their calendars. To find out more about when your local club is hosting the day visit www.discoversailingday.org.au
