The Aldeburgh Yacht Club Junior & Youth Regatta is one of the last remaining week-long regattas of its kind in the country. This year, more than 100 entries competed in five morning and afternoon racing sessions. Strong fleets of Lasers, Optimists, Fevas and Teras took part, as well as a general handicap for all other boats and races for the local Lapwing class.

Aldeburgh Yacht Club works hard to cater for sailors of all abilities, from those new to racing who are encouraged to join the coached regatta fleet, to experienced national champions. There was competitive racing across all fleets.

The varied weather conditions throughout the week challenged everyone, with light winds on Tuesday rising to strong winds on Thursday with gusts of 30 knots.

As well as the full schedule of racing, there was also a fantastic social scene off the water, for which Aldeburgh is well known. Events included class suppers, a hugely popular Disco, and Fancy Dress Friday, when there was an all-encompassing theme of pirates, fairies and fish. Everyone entered into the spirit of dressing up, including sailors, parents, safety-boat crews, and members of the yacht club team.

Overall it was a very successful regatta, with Freddie Fulford saying: 'It's a great week. You can take the sailing as seriously as you want to. It's just great fun!'

Many thanks to all the organisers and volunteers for putting on a very successful week and we hope to see you next year for the Aldeburgh Yacht Club Junior & Youth Regatta which will run from Monday 12th August to Friday 16th August 2019.
