Poole Harbour will come alive with dinghies and keelboats from Sunday afternoon as Zhik Poole Week gets under way. Parkstone Yacht Club will be organising the racing and also keeping the sailors and and their families fed, watered and entertained ashore in the new clubhouse.

Last-minute entries can still be accepted, so anyone who fancies a week of friendly and competitive racing will be welcome to join in. Class starts have long been confirmed for Flying Fifteens, Darts, Lasers, Wayfarers, XODs, Cornish Shrimpers and Dolphins, together with a handicap fleet. Merlin Rockets now have their own start as well, as do the RS200s. Anyone wanting to see how many other boats of their class they'll have to race against can check the latest entries here.

Lasers will be supported by Joel Chadwick from LaserPerformance, who will be providing prizes for the large Laser fleet (currently approaching 50 boats) and also setting up shop to supply a wide range of Laser spares at specially discounted prices.

Although a good number of Parkstone's Flying Fifteens and some regular Poole Week visitors are heading to Garda for the Europeans, there's still going to be a healthy fleet racing in Poole Harbour's Top Triangle. It includes names that have made their mark on the international scene in a range of classes, so even if the quantity is slightly down in the Fifteen fleet the quality most certainly isn't. Another attraction for the Fifteens is the chance to win an under-cover provided by Richard Whitworth and North Sails.

Fickle winds and fluctuating fortunes Wednesday was to have been a day of round-the-harbour courses for most of the fleets racing in Poole Week. The Dolphins and Cornish Shrimpers tend to sail round-the-harbour courses anyway - none of this triangle/sausage business for them. Posted on 29 Aug 2024

Blow the wind Southerly (sometimes with a bit of East in it too) Poole Harbour was very much a harbour of two halves on the Tuesday of Poole Week.
