It's a double win for Shaun Roster and Charlie Chandler as they both secure their second win in the 2018 calendar competition and the final two spots on the 2019 ilovesailing calendar.

Shaun from Southsea and Charlie from Solihull, clinched the final two spots after having their photos selected from all the entries received since the competition opened in March.

Commenting on his winning photo entitled, 'Fast 40+ Class Windward/Leeward Racing in the Solent', Shaun, who was also a winner in April, said: "I'm extremely happy, to win once again, and have a second image feature in the 2019 calendar. I spend a lot of time on the Solent striving to capture imaginative imagery of the sailing racing scene, it's very rewarding to be recognised for my work."

Shaun added: "The Fast 40+ Class provide some of the most dynamic and competitive racing to be found on the Solent. Often very close quarters action, between up to 13 international teams competing in the UK Series, this particular image was taken on the downwind leg of a Windward/Leeward racecourse during the Spring Series at the start of the season."

While Charlie, who was a winner back in June, commented on his winning photo entitled 'dive, dive, dive': "The photo was taken blasting around at Ullswater Yacht Club joining in with their club racing back at the final May bank holiday. What a weekend - strong winds, hot and sunny! I managed to catch the moment as I was hit by a large gust and the whole boat submarined, photographic evidence of a great bar story!"

A total of 218 entries were received in the 2018 calendar competition with all the winners claiming a prize package consisting of:

  • A spot on the 2019 ilovesailing calendar
  • Canvas print of their winning shot
  • Two tickets to the Southampton Boat Show where the official prize giving will take place
  • An RYA goody bag
  • And of course.... the ilovesailing rubber duck, which this year was black to fit with the competition's black and white theme
"Our final two winners complete what is a stunning line up of photos for the 2019 calendar", commented Emma Slater, ilovesailing co-ordinator. "The calendar competition is now in its sixth year and we continue to be blown away by the diversity and quality of images that we receive. The entrants have really pulled out all the stops and produced some amazing images to fit with the black and white theme of the competition this year. I for one am extremely excited to see all the winning entries in print on the 2019 calendar."

The 2018 ilovesailing calendar competition winners are:

  • Mark Smith from Ipswich
  • Michelle Howell from Wakefield (2 x winner)
  • Shaun Roster from Southsea (2 x winner)
  • Errol Edwards from Bristol
  • Steven Kaark from Lower Brailes
  • Charlie Chandler from Solihull (2 x winner)
  • Michael Forbes from Helensburgh
  • Ela Miller from Christchurch
  • Steve Cayley from Torquay
The ilovesailing calendar competition opened in March with entrants submitting their favourite sailing photos. Each month between March and July two winners were picked to represent a different month on the 2019 calendar. The final two spots were picked from all the other entries made between March and July, giving all entrants two chances of winning a spot on the calendar.

The 2019 calendars will go on sale at the 2018 TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show in September, with the first 50 people to purchase a copy also receiving a FREE 2018 black ilovesailing rubber duck. Alternatively the calendars will also be available to purchase via the RYA web shop from 14 September.

The calendar competition is now closed for 2018 but drop by the ilovesailing Facebook page to take part in the extremely popular weekly caption competition, giving you a chance to share your funny, clever and witty captions in a bid to win an ilovesailing duck.
