The end of Lendy Cowes Week and the holiday period meant that the Nordic Folkboat fleet was down to just eight boats for the 12th Royal Lymington Yacht Club Saturday Series race. The Race Officer set a good course in a south / south-westerly wind blowing between 12 and 16 knots with a fast ebbing Spring Tide.
After a start from the Platform, the first mark to windward was Black Rock over on the Isle of Wight side of the Solent across the strong tide with most of the fleet starting towards the pin end. Crackerjack, Padfoot, Mistral, Millie and Lady Linda led the fleet away.
Padfoot tacked early and led the fleet around Black Rock and then on a Starboard Gybe broad reach/run to the first leeward mark no.2 off Yarmouth, where the fleet gybed to mark D on the mainland side. Padfoot lead from Crackerjack and Mistral with Millie and Lady Linda in hot pursuit.
Millie and Lady Linda engaged in tussle to mark D which Millie got the better of and gained inside boat at the mark.
The fourth leg was a beat to Lymington Bank, which is a port hand channel marker. Then followed a second downwind to mark E where Crackerjack gained the lead from Padfoot and she held that on the short beat to the finish.
After around one hour and forty five minutes of great Nordic Folkboat sailing, the first four were Crackerjack, Padfoot, Mistral, Lady Linda and Millie.
