Ela Miller from Christchurch, Dorset and Steve Cayley from Torquay, have claimed spots nine and ten on the 2019 ilovesailing calendar, leaving just two more places up for grabs.
As well as claiming their spot on the 2019 calendar Ela and Steve also win:
- Two tickets to The Yachtmarket.com Southampton Boat Show for the official prize giving
- Canvas print of their winning entry
- A copy of the final printed calendar
- A selection of RYA goodies
- And of course the much loved ilovesailing rubber duck – which this year is black to match the calendar's black and white theme.
Steve, whose winning picture is entitled 'Early Morning Departure – Pilgrim BM45', also secured a place on the 2017 calendar. He commented: "I am both surprised and delighted to be a winner for the second year in a row. It is great to receive that recognition.
"The photo was taken in Torbay, South Devon. Pilgrim, a former Brixham Sailing Trawler and still based in Brixham, was quietly heading out of the bay past Thatcher Rock. I hadn't noticed it until it was almost too late and just had time to grab a couple of shots, including this one. It's great seeing the heritage boats sailing in the bay and they provide some great photo opportunities."
'Into the light' is the title of the second winner for July taken by Ela Miller. Commenting on her win Ela said: "How wonderful! Sailing photography is what I love the most so I drag my camera to the salty sea waters at every opportunity.
"This particular photo was just a perfect finish to a bouncy morning on the rib, as we went out to watch the Round the Island Race. When most of the fleet passed us by and started sailing towards the horizon the spectacular lighting created this perfect scene. We were about to depart and only stayed that little bit longer to allow me to take the shot.
"This was in fact "the last photograph of the day" and I am delighted that it has been chosen to appear on the black and white edition of the ilovesailing calendar – I am more than happy, as it is a privilege to have my photograph amongst so many amazing shots."
Once again judging proved extremely difficult with some 43 spectacular images to choose from for July. "Picking just two winner each month is not an easy job", explains ilovesailing co-ordinator Emma Slater. "The diversity of images and the quality is phenomenal making judging very difficult, but it is always a real pleasure to see all the images that are sent in and see the calendar come together each month as the next two images are chosen."
The final two spots for August will now be selected from all the entries received between March and July, giving entrants a second shot a winning a spot on the calendar.
"We receive so many fantastic images each month that choosing just two is always difficult. By picking our August winners from all the entries received it means everyone has not one but two chances to claiming their place on the calendar", Emma explained.
The 2019 calendars will go on sale at the 2018 TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show in September, with the first 50 people to purchase a copy also receiving a FREE 2018 black ilovesailing rubber duck. Alternatively the calendars will also be available to purchase via the RYA web shop from 14 September.
The ilovesailing calendar competition will re-open in March 2019. But don't forget...as well as the calendar competition the ilovesailing page runs its ever popular weekly caption competition, giving you a chance to share your funny, clever and witty captions in a bid to win an ilovesailing duck.
