North Sails/Gul/Allen Enterprise National Championship at Exe Sailing Club - Overall

by Alice Allen 4 Aug 2018 09:49 BST 28 July - 3 August 2018

At the Enterprise Nationals, the event celebrations concluded to a rowdy rendition of Queen's "We are the Champions" as Dave Jackman, crew Chris Jackman, and the majority of the fleet bounced around the dance floor at Exmouth Sailing Club to celebrate the duo's victory in the Allen, North Sails and Gul Enterprise National Championships.

It had been a tense few hours earlier for Dave Jackman/Chris Jackman as the fleet waited in the course area to see if the wind would fill in. With a northerly coming off the land, as the sun come out, what little breeze there was died off completely. With Phil Ford/Jane Humpage just three points behind, there was a lot to lose, especially in light and fickle conditions. With the clock ticking, and no chance of starting after 13.00, eventually PRO Tim Graham sounded the signals to cancel the final day's racing. The fleet were towed back to shore where Exmouth Sailing Club's fantastic team of volunteers had laid out a full afternoon tea for all the competitions and supporters.

At the evening prize giving, Event Organiser Bob Horlock, Commodore Ted Draper, Beach Master Marilynn Booker, Bar and Catering Supervisor Laura Case and all the many helpers were thanked by the class; with a special note of appreciation for PRO Tim Graham and all his team. Enterprise Association Commodore Richard Pryke thanked all the many sponsors including Exe Sails, Kingfisher, StayDri alongside main sponsors Allen Sailing, Gul and North Sails.

With a resurgence in youth sailors this year, and the popular Bronze, Silver and Gold divisions, many of the competitors walked away with goodies. The success of this year's event bodes well for an epic turnout at at next year's championship taking place at Mount's Bay in conjunction with the Osprey Nationals.
