South Shields Sailing Club Spring Splash

by Ian Judd 29 Mar 2006 09:23 BST 5 Feb - 26 March 2006

The second Typhoon International sponsored South Shields Spring Splash. There was a very impressive turnout with 30 plus boats entering the series and all that from early February to later March.

Alongside the upwind-downwind course was a chance for non-asymmetric boats to show off their skills and with two races back to back it was worth getting out of bed on any cold Sunday.

The fast handicap fleet was blessed with lots of Musto Skiffs and a couple of 49ers from as far as Ullswater SC. The slow handicap fleet had Bytes, Fevas but mainly Lasers.

This was a good chance for Cliff English from SSSC in his Finn to get so practice. Cliff also took a much deserved title with a weekend in the bag. Ian Trotter from Dewent SC also gave an impressive display of boat handling to clinch the series on his new Musto Skiff.

From week to week the wind was mainly light with bitterly cold weather but this turnout once again proves that you can have sailing fun all year round providing you have the right gear, which is where Typhoon International handed out some very impressive prises ready for the new season.
