North Sails/Gul/Allen Enterprise National Championship at Exe Sailing Club - Day 2

by Alice Driscoll & Billy Bartlett 31 Jul 2018 08:35 BST 28 July - 3 August 2018

After racing was blown out on Sunday, the majority of the expected front runners have yet to get their jiggy on. This gave Looe team of David Jackman and brother Chris the opportunity to show how to do it; dominating day 1 with three bullets! Phil Ford, crewed by Jane Humpage kept on their heels with 2nd, 2nd and 4th.

The lumpy seas and 15-18 knot winds saw a certain amount of incidents and prangs around the course. Several boats sustained damage with fellow members of the fleet then providing help and assistance to repair boats back in the dinghy park.

Tim Sadler, a multiple champion, isn't too far off, but reigning champion Jer, Jeremy Stephens is suffering from crossing the river from Cornwall to Devon and not quite at his usual potent pace.

Darren Roach and crew Natalie went from top six to mid-fleet after their boat cracked along the centre board casing during a heavy wave.

Jeremy Williams was the saddest person of the day when a rogue wave capsized him by the sand bar, making a banana out of his mast and punching a hole in his foredeck.

With lighter winds forecast for Tuesday, the fleet is looking forward to more exciting racing at Exmouth.

Next year's nationals will be in held at Mount's Bay Sailing Club from 3rd to 9th August 2019, so get your entry in early. Get planning for it now peeps.
