Magic Marine National Solo UK Championship hits the 100 mark

by Will Loy, President NSCA 18 Jul 2018 20:52 BST 21-27 July 2018

With just three days until measurement begins at Hayling Island for the 2018 Magic Marine Solo National Championship we have hit the magic 100 mark for entries.

With a sponsorship package in place which includes over £3k in prizes, an early bird prize draw every evening, Allen Improver of the Day/Week awards, competitor welcome pack including event T Shirt, Magic Marine cap/sun visor, boom stickers (you have to display these) and competitor water bottles from Selden who are keen to reduce the amount of plastics going into the Ocean. The much plauded "First to the Mark" President's beer vouchers and Happy Hours provided by Fullers in association with HISC should ensure this will be another memorable Championship.

Hyde Sails, HD Sails and P&B are providing discount vouchers on a new mainsail plus logo shirts, halyard bags and kit bags.

Winder Boats are providing a rudder stock with carbon tiller and Rob Jenks at Milanes Foils have donated a beautiful centreboard, everybody wants to win that.

North Sails will be donating some North kit which is always in demand and C2 Marine have provided us with two state of the art carbon night-sticks.

Charlie Cumbley will be on hand to give one lucky individual a dinghy park tuning session and another will have go pro footage re-played on the TV screen for everyone's entertainment. In fact we might do this every evening!

We will have the annual general meeting on Monday the 23rd July where I will step down and Doug Latta will be voted in as the new Class President. Gordon Barclay will also be moving upstairs from Chief Measurer to Technical Advisor with Nick Hornsby filling his sizeable shoes.

I would ask that as many competitors as possible attend just to applaud Gordon for all his efforts.

Watch out for the daily reports with video highlights, some KAP photography, live streaming via our Facebook page in the dinghy park and focuses on all our sponsors and their products.

Magic Marine are our official clothing partner and also support our class roots initiative while Noble Marine will be keeping us racing when the going gets tough.

Forecasts for next week are currently very positive with west/south westerly winds and temperatures in the mid twenties which should generate some formations of cumulus and a sea breeze.
