Solo Open at Broadwater Sailing Club

Jim Hunt streaked to a triple win to lift the Chessboard Trophy! Streaked, not in the sense of running around the boat park naked; that would have been guaranteed to produce hypothermia in the arctic winds prevailing at the time.

No, just that he streaked into the lead from the gun and kept the remainder of the fleet a respectful distance behind.

The Race Officer took advantage of the force 4 wind blowing down the length of the lake and produced courses that gave long beats and interestingly complicated return legs.

In the first race Jim Hunt was followed by Steve Ede and Mark Maskell, this race being both Chris Brown and Vanda Youngs’ discards.

After lunch the second race was subject to a general recall, after which the immediate chasers to Jim Hunt were Chris Brown, Mark Maskell and Vanda Young.

The third Race was run back to back and Jim’s followers this time were Vanda Young, Keith Smith and Chris Brown. However on the final beat Chris passed Keith to take third place.

Overall Results:

1st Jim Hunt (South Staffs)
2nd Chris Brown (RYA)
3rd Vanda Young (Littleton)
