The fourth event of the Sailing Chandlery RS200 Northern Tour took place at Filey SC over the weekend of 23rd/24th June.

On Saturday, the six 200s were greeted with a 10 knot northerly. Race one saw Martin Penty & Sam Waller win from Ollie Groves & Esther Parkhurst with Faye Caswell & Rob Featherstone in third.

In the second race, there was a reversal of fortunes with Ollie & Esther taking the win from Martin & Sam. There was also a switch around in third and fourth places with third being taken by James & Thomas Whitehead.

The final race of the day saw Ollie & Esther win again from Martin & Sam. Third place went this time to Richard Hanby & Brian Kelly.

This left Ollie & Esther with a slender overnight lead from Martin & Sam with everybody else having to play catch up if they were to trouble the two leading boats for the overall prizes.

On Sunday, the winds were lighter, and the fleets were held on shore for an hour and a half before racing commenced in a 3 to 5 knot gentle northerly.

Race four saw Martin & Sam win from Ollie & Esther in second with Faye & Rob in third place. Race five was a repeat of race 4 for the top three with Martin & Sam winning from Ollie & Esther with Faye & Rob in third place.

With one race to go, Martin & Sam held a slender one-point advantage but knew that if Ollie & Esther won the final race then Ollie & Esther would win the event overall.

In the end, the pre-race analysis was academic as Martin & Sam made it a clean sweep of wins on the Sunday with Ollie & Esther in second. James & Thomas took third in the final race, which was sufficient for the to take third place overall by a single point from Faye & Rob.

The raffle for the £20 Sailing Chandlery voucher was on by James Whitehead.

Many thanks to Filey Sailing Club for putting on such a friendly and welcoming regatta and to Sailing Chandlery for their sponsorship of the 2018 RS200 Northern Tour.
