With the 2018 Volvo Round Ireland race now underway, the crews aboard the 56 boat fleet have enjoyed incredible weather as well as a little more breeze than expected with the leading boats now passed the Fastnet rock and heading north up along the Kerry Coast as of 15.00 Sunday. As expected the wind will turn more northerly and lighten into Sunday night/Monday morning and the fleet will have a long upwind leg to the Mayo coast line.

Just before 7am this morning, one of the pre-race favourites Riff Raff retired from the race and made there way to the port of cork. All on board are safe and well and reason being due to gear failure onboard.

Currently Trimaran "Trilogic" is ahead of the main fleet on the water with a close battle in the monohulls between pre-race favourites Baraka and the Class 40 boats of "Corum" of Norway and "Sensation" of France. The rest of the fleet remain tightly bunched approaching the Fastnet Rock!

Racing for the 55 boats is ongoing and live tracking is available on www.roundireland.ie
