A record forty five entries took part in the Guildford Marine Frensham Frenzy, five short of the limit for the water.

Competitors from seven clubs sailed the two race event with classes ranging from Toppers and Cadets to RS400 and a solitary Blaze. In previous years this event became notorious as a high wind challenge. This time competitors sailed in a shifting light to moderate south to south easterly breeze with the occasional sharper gusts.

Race One set the pattern for the day with a win going to local helm Ken Haynes (Solo), followed by Mike Lyons, (Blaze) and Ian Gregory, (Laser). Close behind came Chris Ellis, (Lark), and Bruce Hill, (2.4R). A slight increase in wind force for the afternoon race, and a new course, made little difference to the order, with an outright win for Ian Gregory, with Mike Lyons second, and Ken Haynes third. Fourth place went to Katrina Gilbert & Jenny Rust in the first RS200 and fifth place to, Frensham founder member and Finn veteran, Richard Hart.

During the post-race Frensham Tea, new Commodore Nick Royce thanked competitors and paid special tribute to club helpers: Keith Bannister in charge of safety, Committee Boat starter, Graham Howlett, lap recorder, Carolynne Winchester and especially race officer Bob Castle.

Former Commodore, Chris Ellis, who devised The Frenzy, presented a new trophy, a silver model racing yacht while a fine selection of other prizes were presented by Denise Granger of Guildford Marine, the event sponsors.
