Lark Open at Sidmouth Sailing Club

by Eluned Jones 17 Jun 2018 20:12 BST 16-17 June 2018

A fabulously warm welcome was given to the Lark fleet for their pre-Nationals recce of Sidmouth at the weekend's open meeting.

Two races on the Saturday afternoon were held in a light breeze, both won by Emma & Becky by winning the port bias start and not looking back, despite the flicking breeze. Nigel and Matt secured two seconds. Although the Sidmouth Lifeboats gave a thrilling performance right in front of the clubhouse on the Sunday, the wind Gods weren't awake or decided not to press the 'power' button, so the fleet had to leave, filled with a fine lunch and abundant cakes, but alas no sailing.

A huge thank you to the team at Sidmouth, who pulled out all the stops. The Nationals in August will obviously be run very efficiently and with many sunny smiles all round. For those who have never been to Sidmouth, the club is brilliantly situated right on the beach - with a balcony overlooking the sailing area – and the views from the racing area of the cliffs around Sidmouth are quite incredible. The volunteers at the club couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. If you haven't already entered and booked your 2 days (yes, just 2 days needed) holiday, get on and do it now. A nationals at Sidmouth is going to be a rare treat!

Nationals dates 18-21 August. Entry before 31st July is just £99. If you would love to come, but don't have a boat, crew or helm, contact the LCOA who can help you get on the water.

Overall Results: (top three)

1st Emma Harris & Becky Priest
2nd Nigel Hufton & Matt Wood
3rd Steve & Helen Chatten
