Solo Open at Ardleigh Sailing Club

by Steve Ede 17 Jun 2018 19:40 BST 16 June 2018

Ten visitors made the trip to Ardleigh for an Eastern Area event on Saturday 16 June. They were greeted by perfect sailing conditions – force 2-3 with bright sunshine. Unfortunately only two local Solos joined them for the day.

The first race saw Jarvis Simpson make the early running. There was close racing throughout the fleet, with Godfrey Clarke working his way to the front closely followed by Alan Bishop. They held these places to the finish with local sailor Steve Ede recovering from a poor start to finish third.

Bishop took an early lead in race two and pulled clear to a comfortable win. Behind the racing was very close with Ede finishing second and Mark Maskell third. The competitors then headed ashore for a fabulous buffet lunch.

The final race saw Ede lead from the start to take an easy win. Simpson held second throughout but had to hold off a persistent challenge from both Maskell and Bishop. Overall that left Ede and Bishop tied on 3 points, with Ede winning by virtue of his position in the last race. Clarke took third.
