Burwain was delighted to, yet again, play host to the Northern Area Championship series. The chance to race seasoned skippers from across the region was irresistible to the eight Burwain skippers who arrived bright and early.

By 10.30am however, the scheduled time for the race briefing by John Sharman, it was clear that no visitors would arrive.

They missed a superb, if challenging, day's racing. A blisteringly hot day with intermittent and gentle breezes coming down the lake mostly from the North afforded all some terrific racing.

Close finishes in most races ensured that concentration could never be lapsed. Hugo Chandor (GBR 455) began the day strongly with five wins from the first six races. John Sharman (GBR 428) took 3 of the remaining wins and was perhaps the most consistent skipper of the day. Richard Whittle enjoyed (if that's the right word) a string of average results at the beginning of the day, but finished the strongest with three wins of his own.

Overall Results:

1st Hugo Chandor (GBR 455) 15pts
2nd John Sharman (GBR 428) 18pts
3rd Richard Whittle (GBR 801) 27pts
