RS200 Fox's Chandlery Great Eastern Tour Round 3 at Alton Water Sports Centre

by Ian Videlo 3 Jun 2018 17:04 BST 26-27 May 2019

A fabulous bank holiday weekend provided perfect conditions for the RS200s at Alton Water. This was the third event in the Fox's Chandlery Great Eastern Tour. One local boat, Julie Ann & Nick White, was joined by three crews from neighbouring Waldringfield and one from Pevensey Bay.

Saturday's racing was in a force 2-3 from the North with the windward mark fiendishly positioned in the wind shadow of the trees on the Northern shore making for some interesting opportunities for place changing coming into and away from the mark.

The Mediterranean-like conditions were clearly too inviting for Ellie Ratsuniak who resorted to taking a cooling dip during one tack. In the racing, Stephen Videlo & Robert Stewart achieved 3 race wins from Ian & Alyson Videlo with Lynne Ratcliffe and the afore-mentioned Ellie coming home in third each time.

Sunday was equally warm, but with a stronger breeze that was blowing over the dam wall along the length of the reservoir, conditions could hardly get any better. The fleet was strengthened by the arrival of Harry Chatterton & Archie Penn, and racing was tight all day, with Lynne and Ellie gaining in confidence and revelling in the stronger breeze.

Thanks must go to Alton Water and their team lead by Gavin Johnson who put on some great racing, and seemed to enjoy the spectacle despite a lower turnout than they would have hoped for.

Overall Results:

1st Stephen Videlo & Robert Stewart (Waldringfield) 5pts
2nd Ian Videlo & Alyson Videlo (Waldringfield) 10pts
3rd Lynne Ratcliffe & Eliza Ratsuniak (Pevensey Bay) 16pts
4th Harry Chatterton & Archie Penn (Waldringfield) 24pts
5th Julie Ann White & Nick White (Alton Water) 26pts
