Capt. Brian LeFebvre assumed command of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern New England from Capt. Michael Baroody Friday during a time-honored change of command ceremony in Portland.

As Sector Commander, LeFebvre is responsible for Sector Northern New England's field units and cutters, 19 in total, assigned across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and portions of northeastern New York. He will exercise federal authority granted by law and regulation as Captain of the Port, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, and Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection.

LeFebvre reports from Washington, D.C., where he served in the Office of Congressional Affairs. As the Coast Guard Liaison to the U.S. Senate, he facilitated interest in Coast Guard missions as the principal representative to senators and professional staff.

Following the change of command ceremony, Baroody retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 32 years of dedicated service to the nation.

"To be part of such an organization, one characterized by so many noble and humanitarian missions, has truly been a humbling experience for me," said Baroody.

Sector Northern New England governs Coast Guard missions across the four-state region, which spans over 5,000 miles of coastline and 11,000 square nautical miles of water.
