Brooks Macdonald proud sponsor of Brown Cup Scottish Schools Regatta

by Claire Barry 10 May 2018 09:55 BST 9-11 June 2018

Scottish-based investment management firm Brooks Macdonald is proud to sponsor the annual Brown Cup Scottish Schools Regatta and Race Training Weekend held on Loch Earn, taking place from Saturday 9 June until Monday 11 June 2018.

Hosted by Loch Earn Sailing Club at St Fillans, Perthshire, the event consists of a two-day intensive training camp for children of all sailing abilities on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June. The training is run by sailors who have previously competed in the Brown Cup and have been trained as coaches through the Royal Yachting Association. During the weekend the coaches share their expertise, giving valuable race instruction prior to the Brown Cup Scottish Schools Championship on Monday 11 June 2018.

The competition is now in its 59th year. Last year it attracted 65 competitors from across the country from 35 different schools. 26 schools have won the competition to date.

Robin McAdam, Senior Investment Director, Head of Scotland Office at Brooks Macdonald, commented:

"We are proud to support this year's Brown Cup Scottish Schools Regatta. As a business, Brooks Macdonald has a long-standing commitment to supporting sport, including sponsorship of school sports and teams. This is a very popular sailing event for pupils between the ages of nine and 18."

Alastair Wilson, Investment Director, Scotland Office at Brooks Macdonald, added:

"Sailing is ideal for helping youngsters stay active but it's also a great way for them to improve essential physical skills, such as hand-eye coordination, flexibility, strength, and endurance.

We strongly believe in giving back to our local community and our partnership with Loch Earn Sailing Club provides us with a wonderful platform."

Colin Tait, Sailing Secretary at Loch Earn Sailing Club, added:

"We are very grateful to Brooks Macdonald for their support and are delighted to welcome them back this year as the event sponsor. The sponsorship from Brooks Macdonald raises the profile of the event significantly. The event is now a fixture in the sporting calendar of many Scottish schools, with fleets in the range of 70-85 boats. Support from local businesses is vital to clubs such as ours and it's great to have secured this sponsorship. I'm sure our sailors will wear their new kit with pride."

Since opening its office in Scotland in 2009, the team at Brooks Macdonald has provided investment management services to professional advisers, private clients, trusts and charities throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland. It has evolved into a thriving business and now employs 14 members of staff, headed by Robin McAdam, who joined the firm in 2009.

Entries for the Brown Cup Scottish Schools Regatta 2018 are now open. For further details please contact Colin Tait, Sailing Secretary, Loch Earn Sailing Club; telephone 01561 361057, email or visit here.
