Geoff Meggitt, the RYA North West Regional Chair, officially opened two brand new jetties at Budworth Sailing Club this week. Geoff was accompanied by Bob Rudd, the Chair of Cheshire West County Council who is also a member of the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund who kindly provided an additional grant.
With the help of grants from Sport England, Manchester Airport and the RYA, the new jetties were the result of three months hard work by a team of experts and the club's members to replace the old jetties.
The original wooden jetties had served the club for over 50 years but were slowly becoming more and more dilapidated. The new jetties also feature a disability hoist (with a grant from the RYA) which will expand the club's facilities and ensure they can continue to meet the needs of both the local communities and the various Schools and Youth Organisations that sail on the Mere.
The Club's Commodore, Hugh Devereux, said "This is an exciting day for Budworth as it will ensure that the club can continue to provide excellent facilities, fantastic training opportunities as well as enhancing the sailing experience for both our members and the community. We look forward to showing off the new jetties at our Open Day on 5th May.
