Annual Russian regatta Yachting Rus Cup starts on Lake Garda

On Sunday, on the Italian lake Garda, the traditional regatta of the oldest and largest Russian-speaking community Yachting Rus started. Yachting Rus Cup is the international competition included in the official calendar of the Italian Sailing Federation.

Competitions will be held in the format of fleet races in three one-design classes: J80, CB66 and, for the first time at the request of the regular participants of the regatta, the J70. Every day, sailors expect a short racing of 4-6 miles with direct refereeing on the water. By tradition, the umpire team headed by Italian Luca Babini (Ampire Cup of America in 2005-2006) and the Olympic Games in London in 2012.

In all classes the teams are divided into two groups: Alpha and Bravo, the winners of which will go to the gold fleet and will fight for the main prize - the rolling Cup of the Yachting Rus Cup.

More than 140 sailors from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Krasnodar, Gelindzhik, Tuapse, Taganrog, Minsk, Kiev, Amsterdam, Tallinn, Nice, Helsinki, London gathered in the Italian yacht club Fraglia Vela Riva in the city of Riva Del Garda. In total 32 teams take part in the regatta.

The regatta is held jointly with the European Sailing League and the yacht club Fraglia Vela Riva, whose name in the local dialect means "Brotherhood of the Sail".

The participants of the Yachting Rus Cup are waiting for five intense racing days, a real fight on the water, fine Italian cuisine and daily parties.

The organizer of the Yachting Rus Cup competition is the founder of the community of Russian-speaking yachtsmen Yachting Rus on the Internet Pjotr Lezhnin. Following the results of 2017 for the creation and holding of the traditional regatta YRC Peter won the national award "Yachtsman of the Year 2017" as "The best organizer of the competition". "Competitions of the Yachting Rus community have been held in Garda for several years, - told Pjotr. - Every year, we meet here twice a year, russian speaking sailors are really love this place and one of the main reason is hospitality of Fraglia Vela Riva yacht club".
