There are good reasons why Poole Week is becoming a favourite fixture in the diary of so many people who sail dinghies and small keelboats. Here are just a few:

  • Racing in the stunning surroundings of Poole Harbour and Poole Bay
  • Friendly and competitive racing for sailors of all levels
  • Courses tailored to each class, taking full advantage of the expanse of water and spectacular backdrops
  • Class starts for a wide range of classes, plus handicap fleets too
  • Daily prize-givings, including the random draw that can make you a winner wherever you finish!
  • Big savings on Zhik gear
  • Free insurance from CraftInsure for Wednesday's winners
  • Great social events in the evenings
  • Local attractions for non-sailing family members and friends in and around Poole, Bournemouth, the Purbecks and the New Forest
  • Food and drink included for every entrant (almost to the value of the entry fee if you take advantage of the early-bird entry by 8th May)

And just in case you hadn't heard... Parkstone Yacht Club has a brand new clubhouse this year! Come and see why this exceptional building with its outstanding facilities is the talk of the sailing world.

As ever in Poole Week, all classes of dinghies and small keelboats are welcome. Established fleets include Lasers and Laser Radials, Darts, Flying Fifteens, Poole Dolphins, Wayfarers, XODs, Cornish Shrimpers and RSs (combined 100s, 200s and 400s).

If you don't sail one of these, you will be included in one of the handicap fleets, but don't forget to tell your friends: classes with six or more entrants have their own results and with twelve or more you have your own start.

Any non-sailing members of your party will find stacks to do in the local area. Events coinciding or overlapping with Poole Week this year include the Bournemouth Air Show and the Great Dorset Steam Fair.

Studies in concentration A lot happened on the final day of Poole Week 2024. The wind was in one of its light and fickle moods, the tide was ebbing for the first starts, and the harbour was busy with traffic that had been mercifully light earlier in the week. Posted on 31 Aug 2024

Fickle winds and fluctuating fortunes Wednesday was to have been a day of round-the-harbour courses for most of the fleets racing in Poole Week. The Dolphins and Cornish Shrimpers tend to sail round-the-harbour courses anyway - none of this triangle/sausage business for them. Posted on 29 Aug 2024

Blow the wind Southerly (sometimes with a bit of East in it too) Poole Harbour was very much a harbour of two halves on the Tuesday of Poole Week. In the top triangle, sailing area for the Flying Fifteens and ILCAs (Lasers in old money), the wind started in the south and pretty well stayed there. Posted on 28 Aug 2024
