The opening two races of the Zhik Combined High Schools Championship have seen very light and shifty conditions which has seen sailors needing to use all their tactical skills to gain an advantage over the competitors.

After yesterday's Invitational Race which saw many competitors misread their course maps, today everyone was fully prepared to race. Race one was sailed in a light ESE which played havoc for a number of boats. The multihulls have been hoping for the breeze to come but the weather gods have not delivered.

'Compass Global' a 16ft skiff sailed by Thomas Steenson (St Pauls) had a brilliant first race to finish first across the line and on corrected time. The F11's continue to perform well in the light conditions posting some solid results with last year's winner Aimee Gallaway (Asquith Girls) and fellow F11 sailor Darby Jones (St Mary's) finishing second and third respectively.

Race two saw some similar names at the top end of the fleet. Aimee Gallaway (Asquith Girls) and Darby Jones (St Mary's) continued to revel in the light conditions to reverse the score in race one. Max Downey (Normanhurst Boys High) sailing his F11 'Don't Tell Mum!' sailed well to take the win on corrected time.

Similar conditions are expected for the remainder of the regatta. However, with the chasing fleet not far behind, this regatta is far from over.
