36th Lake Garda Optimist Meeting - Day 2

by Fraglia Vela Riva 31 Mar 2018 07:18 BST 28 March - 1 April 2018

Day 2 at the Lake Garda Optimist Meeting was milder and sunnier, which on one hand was appreciated by the many tourists compared to yesterday's weather, on the other the 1,400 sailors racing enjoyed lighter wind for less time. The Cadets managed to fully conclude the third race (two sailed on day 1), while on the Junior's course the yellow and blue fleets managed to sail the second race – the other Junior fleets had too light wind to continue.

A challenging competition is going on in the cadets' top positions: Manuel De Asmundis reached temporary first place with 1-4-1. Clara Lorenzi (CNB) has also climbed a position gaining second place overall and first among girl, only one point away from first overall. Mosè Bellomi, the other sailor from Fraglia Vela Riva, is lacking behind on third place, eight points behind Lorenzi. On the following positions are Hungary, Germany with the second girl Catalina Feussner, Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy again. After the exclusion of the worst scoring it will be possible to understand the possible final top three sailors, who will give their best in the final race on Sunday gold fleet.

The Junior's ranking are not being processed: the day's fleets which did not manage to fully sail the third race (today's second) will start racing again of Saturday morning at 11:00 (ranking uptade www.fragliavelariva.it/sites/default/files/regatta/r2437-result-f5473.htm)

In the meanwhile, the winning ceremony of the Country Cup took place on Thrusday evening at Palameeting with the Swiss Thommen taking the gold, followed by the French Baraz (silver) and the Italian Mattia Cesana (bronze).

The live streaming will be available tomorrow and on Sunday. It will be possible to watch the event organised by Fraglia Vela Riva from every corner of the globe, also thanks to Riva del Garda, which contributed to offer to all participants proper and comfortable facilities both for sailors, the International Jury and the two Race Committees, along with the on-land side events dedicated to all participants, coaches and families at the Garda Wind Garda Village. Great commitment shoed by the FIV Regatta Umpires, Jury and the Fraglia Vela Riva staff with so many parents helping with passion every day offering only the best to all the sailors present in Riva del Garda.
