BUSA Champion helms return to Excalibur as Alumni and still do the business!

Exeter University are celebrating this weekend after hosting a fantastic team racing event, won by Exeter's own alumni.

The two-day event saw 21 teams descend to Exeter, some journeying from as far as Newcastle. Despite a bit of rain, spirits were not dampened as Saturday kicked off ready for a day of racing at Roadford Lake. The conditions were windy, making it an exciting and fast paced event.

The pressure was on for Exeter's Alumni, whose team featured three of last year's BUSA sailing champions. However, the team cruised to victory, with Southampton Blue taking 2nd and NWA finish in 3rd place.

"There was great wind all weekend despite the occasional downpour, and we got through a lot of races. It was great fun, definitely took us a while to get warmed up and we made a lot of silly mistakes. But that only made our races all the more interesting." – Captain of Exeter Alumni team, Laurence Carter.

Thanks to fantastic organisation from Exeter's Jess Hammett and Belle Body, as well as a vast number of Exeter sailors on deck to help, over 150 races took place during the event. But the weekend wasn't just for sailing, as sailors enjoyed partying at their arrival on Friday, as well as a pirate themed Saturday Social.

Exeter University express their gratitude to Sunsail, Exe Sail and Red Bull, whose sponsorship enabled the event to take place. Special thanks must also go to umpires and to Keith Sammons and Martin Smethers, who helped ensure a smooth running of the event.
