iDintranet's Paul Campbell-James was recovered from a man-overboard during the final race of Day 2 of the SuperFoiler Grand Prix’s opening regatta in Adelaide.
The trio were pushing series leader Euroflex all day and pressed a little too hard on the fourth race of the regatta and iDintranet's skipper was tossed overboard. The second placed machine continued racing – with Fang Warren commandeering the vessel as the safety jet ski raced to get the British skipper back on board.
The America’s Cup sailor Campbell-James returned to his iDintranet machine unscathed and resumed steering duties – crossing the line just behind Euroflex. “I think the lack of weight in the back of the boat helps so CJ can afford to go on a bit of a diet overnight so we can pop a little quicker up wind, it will be good,” said bowman Ed Powys.
Amongst the ribbing of his team-mate, Powys hinted that there would be more of a challenge to come on the so far perfect record of Euroflex who have scooped that maximum points on offer. “If we can close the gap on the down-wind leg than we can mix it up a bit more. We will see what we can do tomorrow.”
Record Point was unable to take to the start line for the final skirmish on Adelaide’s Outer Harbour due to a capsize, but their team-mate James Wierzbowski is confident his team-mates from New Zealand will be able to fight back – “It is always devastating to have such a big capsize but the boys won’t be deterred and will be back fighting tomorrow.”
The regatta is being led by Euroflex with iD, Pavement, Kleenmaid, Record Point and tech2 in arrears. The racing continues tomorrow with double points on offer across all three races. Live-streaming continues at www.superfoiler.com this Sunday from 2pm-4pm ACDT.
